I hope October is treating you well so far. September was a crazy busy month for me with recovering from our road trip we went on earlier in the month, and October is proving to be even busier. I think I’ve come to terms with the fact that when I’m busy doing things I love and truly enjoy though, it’s the best kind of busy there is! 🙂

How many times while trying to achieve a long-term goal of yours do you start to get unmotivated or off track? Sometimes it is hard to continually have the strong focus you had at the beginning of goal setting, months or years after you start that goal.
My husband and I are currently saving up for a down payment for our first house, so I wanted to share what we do to keep our eyes on the prize even though it’s probably another year and a half away.
While we are very fortunate to rent a pretty new 1 bedroom apartment in my hometown and we have very respectful neighbors and a good landlord, most of our friends are buying houses. Even though it is fun to see them get their first homes and settle in, it is also hard for us since we can’t wait until it’s our turn to move into the first place that will be really “ours”.

I hope September is treating you well so far. This month’s income report is a little late due to our road trip in late August/early September, I feel like I’m still recovering from it! I’ve discovered that traveling with a toddler is definitely a bit exhausting, my hubby and I both felt like we needed a vacation to recover from the vacation 😉 . The memories we created together were absolutely worth the effort though!

Today I have a fun treat for you! I’m sharing my first post as part of an informative new series that I decided to start up.
I’m going to be interviewing Solopreneurs about how they started their businesses and became self-employed, as well as a peek into their “typical” day and what advice they have for others who are also aspiring to journey down the path of self employment.
For anyone unfamiliar with the term “Solopreneur”, it is a term used to describe an Entrepreneur who runs their own business pretty much single-handedly. They might have a few contractors for hire, but do not have any full-time employees and have the full responsibility of running all aspects of their business on their own.

I have a guilty confession to make.
This past weekend I sat down on Saturday morning to answer some emails and realized that I officially had over 2,000 unread emails in my inbox. Two THOUSAND.
My immediate reaction was feeling completely overwhelmed and as a result, wanting to slam my laptop closed and just walk away and pretend I didn’t see it. Very mature and productive, right? 😉 [Read more…]

July was a great month for me and I’m excited to be able to share my progress and lessons I’ve learned this past month. As many of you are aware, I left my full-time office job in January 2013 to pursue self-employment.

I’ve shared the 7 truths about self-employment and a typical day in my life, but I realized that I’ve yet to share some of the very valuable life lessons that I’ve learned through self-employment.
Becoming self-employed has allowed me to not only grow my aptitude for business and create a more well-rounded skill set by forcing me to dive into all the different aspects of “doing it all” as a solopreneur, but I’ve also learned lessons about life in general that I never expected by taking this journey. When I first started out down the self-employment path as a freelance marketer and writer a few years ago, I never envisioned how my journey would shape my life into what it is today.
Doing freelance work from the comfort of my own home while also getting to be a stay-at-home Mama to Little Miss has been the best fit for me and the life I wanted to create for myself.
I get to let my creative juices flow through my work while also seeing my baby reach all of her first milestones and spending a lot of time with her that I cherish.
I know that many of you have expressed interest in becoming self-employed and being able to work from home as well, which is why I occasionally like to share my own experience with taking the self-employment plunge. [Read more…]
Hitting “publish” on a post like this is slightly terrifying. I know that income can be such a controversial topic, and I am a very private person by nature so this is completely out of my comfort zone.

I think most people envision self-employment as being the holy grail of work. It is perceived as being the ultimate freedom in choosing to use your time as you please and doing what you want to do, when you want to do it.
