I always love reading more about the blogger behind each of my favorite blogs. It’s fun to learn more about the personal side to them that gives you a better idea of where they come from. In spirit of that, I’ve put together a little list of things you may not know about me.
6 things you may not know about me:
I’m at home in the water
I swam competitively for a good portion of my childhood and spent my summers in high school life guarding, teaching swim lessons, and coaching a swim team. I still love swimming in all bodies of water – pools, oceans, and lakes included! I even signed my 7-month-old daughter up for swim lessons that we’ve been enjoying going to the past few weekends. I want her to love the water as much as I do. So far, she seems to really like it too!
I live in the same town I grew up in
Some might consider this sad that I haven’t branched out and moved further away, but I really do love our town. We are in the western suburbs of Chicago and I actually think it’s quite beautiful where we live. We’re also about 10 minutes away from two sets of grandparents and one set of great grandparents for the Little Miss. Not to mention plenty of aunts, uncles, and cousins that live in the area as well. Hard to beat that!
I’m extremely tall
Six feet tall, to be precise. My Dad is 6’8″ and my Mom is 5’10”, so that’s where I get it from! Finding jeans long enough used to be quite the chore even just a few years ago, but so many clothing stores now carry tall lines for women that there are plenty of options for pants that are long enough. I’m grateful for that!
I have a huge sweet tooth
I adore dessert more than any other type of food. Donuts, cakes, cupcakes, chocolate, candy, ice cream, you name it. I probably have some form of sweets almost every single day. I realize that having this much sugar is pretty bad for me, but I do try to eat healthy otherwise to even it out a bit. Hey, some people do crack. A little dessert is okay in comparison π .
I am an introvert masked as an extrovert
While I love spending time with others, even at parties and other large gatherings, I am most energized by being alone. I’ve never been one to feel lonely or like I need constant companionship. Quite the opposite is true, actually. This doesn’t mean I am shy though, as I’m often mistaken for an extrovert because I come across as being fairly outgoing most of the time. But I definitely need downtime to reboot my energy levels and feel centered.
Country music is my jam
As long as I can remember, country music has always been my favorite genre. Something about it really speaks to me. Maybe it’s because I’m a country girl at heart and will take open fields over skyscrapers any day. Fun fact – my Husband hated country music right when we started dating. 8.5 years later and he will now listen to country radio stations even when I’m not with him…mission accomplished.
What is something that most people may not know about you?
Meredith @ Unexpectedly Magnificent says
I don’t get what the big deal is about living so close to where you grew up. I myself have had people comment on it. I’ve lived in New York and Paris but still am happiest in the Philly suburbs. Like you said, it’s nice to be so close to family!
What country music do you like? I love both classic (Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline) and current artists (Miranda Lambert, Dixie Chicks).
Christina Tiplea says
Absolutely Meredith! I feel like the more places I see and travel to, the more I realize Chicago is really great for us.
I love a mix as well! Johnny Cash is probably amongst my favorite of the classic stuff. That’s pretty unique that you are the same, I feel like the majority of country fans either like the old school true country, or the newer songs that have some pop to them as well. Glad to be in good company π

I always think it’s interesting when people live where they grew up because I was in a military family. I was born in another country and we moved around every few years. When my Dad retired they stuck around the area of his last duty station, the base closed a year later and the town went to crap. I find it amazing when people love their little towns enough to stay because I’ve yet to have that experience. I’m hoping that some day we find a town that we want to make our forever home.
Christina Tiplea says
Aw I hope you find your forever home town soon too Amy!! π

What a fun post! Beautiful picture of you, Christina! π
Let’s see, I think we have a few things in common. I love the water too, I have a crazy sweet tooth, and I’m also an extroverted introvert. What we don’t have in common ~ I’m an Air Force brat, so I don’t really have a hometown, at least a childhood one anyway. I’m 5’5″ and always had the opposite problem with jeans. They’d be about a foot too long and my mother would hem them. YUCK! That finally ended when I was able to buy jeans somewhere other than Kmart. And I’m a rock fan through and through.
I think it would be fun if more bloggers did posts like this. Maybe you’ll get a trend going! π
Christina Tiplea says
Thank you Kay! π
Love it, I really enjoying learning random facts about people. It’s so fun to me! I would love if more bloggers did posts like this – I nominate you to start!

I too love the water, though I don’t have good evidence to support it like you do. I have a major sweet tooth and will tear apart the kitchen looking for something to satisfy it – I try to convince myself to tame the beast by not buying sweets. So far, it doesn’t work. And I am most definitely a country music fan. By far my favorite is Texas/Red Dirt music. I don’t care for the pop that seems to have taken over recently. Nice work on the hubby’s music taste too. That is an area we have always agreed on!
Christina Tiplea says
I’m the same way, I will find the last bag of chocolate chips that I was saving for baking and eat those if there’s nothing else sweet left in the kitchen. Whoops!
Jayleen @ How Do the jones do it says
‘Hey, some people do crack. A little dessert is okay in comparison’ this made me laugh out loud! I have a sweet tooth but am working to reel it in!
I need that down time too! When I tell people I’m an introvert, they never believe me;0)
Christina Tiplea says
Haha glad you have a good sense of humor π
I get the same with being an introvert, people always think I’m lying!

My husband is 6’6″,Finding clothes is our biggest challenge with him, plus his shoe size.
Christina Tiplea says
I bet! Between my Dad and my Brother who are both 6’8″, I’m all too familiar with the quest for clothes and shoes for big guys. My Husband is pretty average height, which works great for him because he can always find exactly what he’s looking for in his size. Lucky dog!
Sara says
Wow, I knew all of these things!! We should go to a country music concert together this summer!
Christina Tiplea says
Absolutely Sara! I would love that!!
Daisy @ Simplicity Relished says
Ah this was a fun read!! π I definitely can relate to being an extroverted introvert… I fluctuated for a while and am now pretty much settling into my talkative introvert nature!
Christina Tiplea says
Thanks Daisy! Glad to know I’m in good company π

Hi there Christina! Just found your blog and loving it! I too just moved back to my hometown – a western suburb of Chicago as well! I went to school in Texas (and therefore also a huge country music fan) and my husband and I lived in the city for awhile before deciding it was time to relocate to the burbs.
Christina Tiplea says
Aw thank you Kelly! I am SO glad you commented – I 100% have misophonia and am loving your site, you have a new fan in me!!
